Mrs. is proud to present Gluteus Maximus, Omari Douglin’s second solo exhibition at the gallery, on view January 31 - March 30, 2018.
Inspiring an orchestra of movement through lines which embody a spiritual resonance with the female form, this exhibition guides the eye through raw canvases with curiosity and fascination.
Contemplating the gluteus maximus - its form is depicted with lyrical caulk lines which double as stick figures at play. The industrial colored caulks, softly represent skin tones, weaving a conversation between drawing, painting, and relief sculpture into a multi readable, thematic take on figuration. These works become at times, sexy or elegant and overtly delineate the curvature of a female body. In others, the figure remains somewhat hidden, receding into minimal, abstract lines. Ultimately, Gluteus Maximus f unctions as an homage and celebration of life, beauty and art’s attempt to respectfully translate the delicacy and elegance of the female body.
