TAKING ITS TITLE FROM CHING-IN CHEN’S POEM “SPELL FOR A HOLE,” THIS REMOTE EXHIBITION WAS ASSEMBLED AND INSTALLED IN A SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA LAUNDRY ROOM USING TERRACOTTA CLAY, STAINED GLASS, PLASTICINE, CHOLLA WOOD, BAMBOO, SEASHELLS, BOBTAIL BARLEY, 9-VOLT BATTERIES, LED LIGHTS, LIQUID GLASS, WIRE, A YELLOW SQUASH, A GRAPHITE DRAWING, AND A PHOTO COLLAGE.
ANDY RALPH – (BORN IN LAKE ARROWHEAD, CALIFORNIA IN 1982) HE CURRENTLY LIVES AND WORKS IN NEW YORK CITY. ANDY’S SCULPTURES FUNCTION AS PROCESSING MACHINES, WITH THEIR MECHANICS UNABASHEDLY VISIBLE. ANDY HAS BEEN INCLUDED IN EXHIBITIONS WITH NEW RELEASE, SCULPTURE CENTER, SAFE GALLERY, CUEVAS TILLEARD PROJECTS, MOTHERSHIP BNB, SMALL EDITIONS, FLUX FACTORY, P.A.D. GALLERY AND REGINA REX ALL IN NEW YORK, AS WELL AS L&M ARTS IN LOS ANGELES, THE ORANGE COUNTY MUSEUM OF ART, AND THE MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART IN SAN DIEGO. HE HAS BEEN AWARDED ARTIST RESIDENCIES AND FELLOWSHIPS AT OX-BOW SCHOOL OF ART IN MICHIGAN, THE TETON ART LAB IN JACKSON HOLE, WYOMING, AND FAMOUS CHIMPS IN RIDGEWOOD, NY. HE COMPLETED HIS MFA AT HUNTER COLLEGE, NEW YORK, IN 2019. AND PRESENTED HIS SECOND SOLO EXHIBITION AT NEW RELEASE GALLERY IN NEW YORK THAT RAN FEBRUARY THROUGH MARCH 2020, JUST BEFORE THE C19 LOCKDOWN.
