The ship's wreckage is covered with the deposits formed by microbial products and multi-layer rust, the thickness of which is constantly growing. In addition, 24 species of invertebrates and 4 species of fish live on and near the hull, of which 12 species of invertebrates are clearly gravitating towards wreckage, eating metal and wooden structures. The interiors have been almost completely destroyed. Wooden elements are absorbed by deep sea worms. Remains of decks are covered by layers of shells. There are fewer and fewer objects made of organic materials. Those are gradually being broken down by abyssal decomposers. All human bodies are completely decomposed, the sole reminder being pairs of shoes lying side by side. Stalactites of rust hang from many metal parts. Its hilly surface takes the form of lamellar branches, folds and bunches.
The condition of the wreckage is rapidly deteriorating. In the period from 1985 to 2010, the crow’s nest fell into the cargo hatch, a part of the boat deck, officer's cabins and gym almost completely collapsed, the mast bent. At a moderate rate of rust growth, the skeleton will fall apart completely into small fragments at the turn of the XXI and XXII centuries. Only massive metal structures—boilers, engines, and anchors—will survive.
