1599fdT is happy to present AS IF, 1599fdT second exhibition of works by Mary Helena Clark, Ishan Clemenco, Cyprien Gaillard, Paul Kos, Lauren McKeon, Josh Minkus, Will Rogan, and Nobuo Sekine.
Our present can turn into a nightmare, and one antidote against its chaos is the activity of invention: the power of materialization to produce a reality. Similarly to the objects found in Borges’ Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius, the existence of the type of artworks found in the exhibition is based on an “abs olb” presupposition. They do not mirror the world itself but rather constitute an archeology of one of multiple ideas of the world. Their existence seems to have a transparent relationship to that version of reality; thus, they can never suffer from the disorder of our daily experience. On the contrary, they shape it.
