A big face for your kitchen.
When it first appeared under our sink we had a lot of questions. Our landlord sent over their handyman who blamed us, as usual. How could this be our fault? “Maybe it was something you put down the drain.” Oh, come on! When the handman left we sat in the kitchen staring at the face. We stared so deeply, with such forcefulness, and for so long that eventually our eyeballs touched and merged. We’d share little scraps of food. Our initial questions still needed answers: Where did you come from? What brought you to this place? Why do you stare so blankly? Are you hungry? Do you like the same food I like? In reply: Nothing.
That’s it!
There’s no punchline.
Max Guy is an artist who incorporates videos, cut silhouettes, text, and dramatic lighting into larger, often theatrical installations and thought experiments. Through this work he clumsily engages media-theory, post-racial discourse, existentialism, social-psychology, cosmopolitanism, and self-affirmation. Max has a BFA in Interdisciplinary Sculpture from the Maryland Institute College of Art, and an MFA from the Department of Art, Theory and Practice at Northwestern University. He has exhibited work at Prairie, The Back Room, and Bar 4000, Chicago; Moonmist, Houston; 321 Gallery, New York; What Pipeline, Detroit; Federico Vavassori, Milan; Nudashank and Franklin Street, Baltimore; he has performed at Signal and Canada Gallery in New York, The Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, Sector 2337, and Comfort Station.
